Hairdressing

Hairdressing and make-up tuition are the flagship discplines of the Junior Training School and were the first subjects introduced when the JTS was established in 2008.

There are many different courses available, giving schools and students a great deal of choice over the length, style, variety and qualifications attainable in hair and make-up.

Qualifications

BTEC Entry Level Award/Certificate in An Introduction to Hair & Beauty, Entry 3
BTEC Level 1 Certificate/Diploma in An Introduction to Hair & Beauty
City & Guild Level 2 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Creative Hair & Beauty Studies
NVQ Level 1 in Hairdressing
NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing
NVQ Level 3 in Hairdressing

1 year (34 weeks)
2 years (68 weeks)
6 weeks
12 weeks
18 weeks
24 weeks

Numbers

Class sizes begin at 6 but can accommodate up to 20 students per session

Location

Classes can be run at participating schools or off-site at nominated facilities in the vicinity or at the JTS headquarters in Chatham, Kent

Hairdressing courses cover all aspects, starting from personal health, health and safety etc, through to hair design, cutting? Wedding hair etc

What we offer

The Junior Training School began by introducing young people to practical courses in hairdressing and beauty. This not only taught students about how to look after themselves but also gave them an edge when they were old enough to progress to college, university or straight into apprenticeships and the workplace.
Today, the Junior Training School has expanded the subjects it can provide and now includes:

Established in 2008, the JTS has now worked with more than 22 schools to offer a variety of recognised qualifications, accredited courses and workshops to students of differing ability in an engaging, supportive and practical environment to ensure that each boy and girl gets the most from the subject they are studying.

Based in the Historic Dockyard in Chatham, JTS has also developed satellite centres across Kent, which students visit for one or two days of their academic week.

In other instances, the JTS provides courses within the students’ own schools.

At the JTS, we always   endeavour to   introduce new  extra-curricular   activities within  the field of study,  in order to expand the  students’  learning  experience.
