English courses have been introduced by the Junior Training School to assist schools in bringing all students up to speed in the basics, use and expanded knowledge of English.
The JTS follows the English GCSE Support Programme for Yrs 9, 10 & 11 and works with schools in re-learning processes and extra tuition for students who require additional support.

This is designed as a retrospective course to help students who have fallen behind or who may be struggling to maintain the levels required to achieve the GCSE qualification
The course, accredited by Edexcel, will focus on:
- Skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing
- Communicating with others confidently, effectively, precisely and appropriately
- Creatively and imaginative expression
- Helping students understand the patterns, structures and conventions of written and spoken English
- Selecting and adapting speech and writing to different situations and audiences
- Helping students understand how variations in spoken and written language relate to identity and cultural diversity
- Making students become critical readers of a range of texts, including multimodal texts
- Using reading to gain access to knowledge and to developing skills as writers
- Helping students understand that texts from British literary heritage have been influential and significant over time and explore the meaning of these today
- How literature from other cultures is influential
- Connecting ideas, themes and issues, drawing on a range of texts.
